Steel washers, whether made of galvanized steel or stainless steel, are designed to withstand high temperatures and fire, making them perfect for lifetime backups.

Stainless Steel
Both Galvanized steel and Stainless Steel would withstand a building fire, therefore they are perfect for a seed phrase backup.
Galvanized steel is coated with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion, which is effective in preventing rusting in moderate environments. Stainless steel contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium, which forms a passive oxide layer that protects the metal from corrosion.

BitJig M14
The BitJig M14 is designed to stamp up to 12 words on each side of an M14 washer with a diameter of 44mm. For this purpose, we have 3 holes to inscribe the words in concentric circles.
The base of the BitJig has 24 slots, allowing you to inscribe 4 numbers and the first 4 letters of 4 words in each concentric circle. There are 2 slots for each number and 4 slots for each word (only the first 4 letters of each word from the BIP-39 list are needed to identify a word).
The 4 gray squares on the base are designed to mark the starting point of each word in the concentric circles.
It is also possible to engrave more than 4 letters per word. For example, if we use only one slot for the numbers, we will have an extra letter slot for each word. Or, if we don’t use all the numbers and follow the clockwise order to place the words, for instance by placing only the numbers 1, 5, and 9 on each side, we will have many more free slots for the letters.
Our Proposal

If you’re looking for a compact solution that works flawlessly, we recommend the BitJig M6 with smaller washers (18mm diameter). You might think they are too small, but the letters and numbers fit perfectly, and you can hide the set of washers in the most hidden spots.
If you’ve come to us through internet tutorialson engraving recovery phrases on metal washers, the typical choice is M8 washers (24mm diameter). For that solution, we recommend our standard BitJig M8.

If you have an anvil and a set of steel punches already, the BitJig Lite might be a good option for you. Finally, if you have a 3D printer, you could always test our BitJig Free solution.
